Description

Banda Didá was formed in the early nineties by Neguinho do Samba, the musical director of on Olodum. The aim was to give the women in the Pelourinho and the surrounding neighborhoods of Salvador a chance to develop their own musicality and creativity in this male-dominated field. As a pure woman group Banda Dida plays since then not only in the Carnival of Salvador, but traveled with her explosive and exciting way to play samba reggae Brazil and the rest of the world. Musically Didá has its roots in classical samba reggae as the group Olodum has made it popular worldwide. However, they always combine this with influences from the percussive variety of Bahia. Particularly striking is the focus on the movement with the instrument, so that the Banda Didá is not only a feast for the eyes but for the ears, too.

Adriana Portela began her musical career in 1992 as a student of Neguinho do Samba and was soon the leader of the first feminine samba reggae formation Banda Dida. As a graduate social scientist, Adriana strives to make the project Didá a place where women are empowered to strengthen their position in society.
